Capital of Hawaii on the island of Oahu, and a popular tourist destination, Honolulu is renowned for its world-beating surfing and water sports spots. However, there's far more to the city than surfing; with museums, the only royal palace in the country, and even the world's largest open-air shopping mall, there's bound to be something to entice any visitor. There are two cruise terminals at Honolulu Harbour – Pier 11 is located in the heart of the city, next to the iconic Aloha Tower, whilst Pier 2 is located a little further out of town.
Kahului is the main cruise port for Maui, Hawaii's second most popular island. Kahului is the perfect port to explore the volcano, Haleakala in the Haleakala National Park – the now dormant volcano contains the largest crater in the world at a circumference of 20 miles and over 2,600 feet deep. The island is also home to the famed Hana Highway, regarded as one of the most beautiful roads in the world, which stretches 65 miles over the south of the island. The curvy road, littered with one-lane bridges, has earned the nickname 'the Divorce Highway' because the stress of driving the route has caused many couples to argue. If you can handle your nerves, you'll be rewarded with lush rainforests, cascading waterfalls, black-sand beaches, tropical vegetation and sleepy Hawaiian villages.
Hilo is located on the north-western side of the island of Hawaii. The port is the perfect jumping off point to explore Wailuku River State Park, best known for the 80-foot Rainbow Falls and Peepee Falls. You can also visit Hawaii's only rainforest zoo, featuring a plethora of exotice plantlife and animals, including two Bengal tigers. The centre of Hilo has lots of opportunities to shop, dine and drink, as well as a number of fascinating museums, including the Lyman Museum and the Pacific Tsunami Museum, where you can learn about the devastating impact of the natural disasters almost had on the town and surrounding areas. Just 45 minutes outside of Hilo is the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, home to two(!) active volcanoes, one of which is dubbed 'the world's only drive-in volcano'. The expansive 523 square mile park is one of Hawaii's most popular attractions, and with breathtaking rainforests, deserts, and dramatic craters, it's clear to see why.
Vancouver is a delicious juxtaposition of urban sophistication and on-your-doorstep wilderness adventure. The mountains and seascape make the city an outdoor playground for hiking, skiing, kayaking, cycling, and sailing—and so much more—while the cuisine and arts scenes are equally diverse, reflecting the makeup of Vancouver's ethnic (predominantly Asian) mosaic. Vancouver is consistently ranked as one of the world's most liveable cities, and it's easy for visitors to see why. It's beautiful, it's outdoorsy, and there's a laidback West Coast vibe. On the one hand, there's easy access to a variety of outdoor activities, a fabulous variety of beaches, and amazing parks. At the same time, the city has a multicultural vitality and cosmopolitan flair. People often get their first glimpse of Vancouver when embarking on an Alaskan cruise, and many return at some point to spend more time here.
